Hey guys, its been a while since I posted last. There’s been loads going on, with and aside from the photography. I’ve now managed to combine both of my websites together, into this new look/feel site, making it easier to update and post. I used to get stuck at the which website should i update/post to now the procrastination has subsided. There are still loads of updates that I need to make so please bear with me. As we say here, This is the beginning…
I’m running a six week Introduction to Photography workshop in Sparkhill Birmingham. We had the first session yesterday, 29th March. The guys in the session were/are great and based on the different personalities I can see it’s going to be an interesting journey. I’ve set up a blog to document our experiences and upload progress photos. The end result will be a series of images from the guys and their progression using light. Above is the flyer for the project which is being run in conjunction with Birmingham City Council and The Drum.
A few weeks ago, I did a shoot. The little girl in question was 10 months old. As far as babies go she was a happy one, getting on with stuff whilst I moved around her and clicked away. Every once in a while she’d stop what she was doing and almost pose as if she knew what was happening, she was cool. I got a lot of great shots, a couple of which I’ve put in the portraits section. The thing about this little girl is her eyes, big and very blue. It was a great job. Its ones like this that make your life easier, I know they say don’t work with animals or children but I got lucky here. Thanks guys.
Looking back at some of the images that I took over summer makes me think what the hell I’m doing in this cold. You wake up and its cold, you go outside and its cold, you go to sleep, guess what? Cold, damn but seeing as it is winter… Winter does have its beauty too, no leaves on the trees, the winter colours, and the way the landscape changes. One thing I love and hate at the same time is frost. When you look at it and the way its formed at that particular moment in time, it does make you think, but when you have to scrape the damn car in the morning, makes you want to… Heres the picture anyway.
We went up North for few days in August. It was nice to get away and the weather held out too. One thing I promised myself was to take more family shots, which usually I don’t do because I’m always looking to photograph other stuff but this time I did, so here it is. We don’t always look miserable, it was just one of those shots.
Here’s an image from a shoot that we did for a Birmingham based artist. He’s been on the poetry scene for a while now with his own blend of socio-political performance poetry. ‘Rohit the Poet’ as he’s known, has decided to branch out and exploit his other talents which include playing the sitar. He’s been playing since he was 10yrs old and has been taught by some of the best teachers and sessioned with other brilliant classical instrumentalists. He’s also in the process of developing his own workshops which utilise centuries old Indian fables aka ‘Panchatantra Poetry’. His workshops will run in schools where he will combine the fables with drama and craft to give young people a better understanding of not only classic poetry from the Indian subcontinent, but also the universal morals derived from them. We’re in the process of developing his website and shooting some more quality images for his story. In the meantime if you wish to get in touch with Rohit, who is also available for weddings you can email him on panchatantrapoetry@gmail.com or if you want images for you or your companies’ marketing effort, drop me a line.
We took a trip headed South a couple of weeks ago to visit my brother and his kids, he’s got a boy and a girl (for some reason I’m getting flashes of ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’). We hadn’t seen the kids in a couple of months so it was a real pleasure to sit down and play with them and take pictures of them. We had a lot of fun. We came back home and then I sat down and looked at the pictures and thought to myself, that’s one thing that I haven’t done in a long time – black and white. So, here are two of the many pictures I took of my beautiful niece and badass nephew.
Here’s an image I took at the Sampad dancedub which took place at the Walsall Art Gallery earlier this year. Its on the front page of this website if you hadn’t noticed The image has been featured on the cover of Sampad’s Annual review 2010/2011.
